CAN CINE 160 FILL THE 70MM MOVIE
VOID?
There is no doubt that the movie
theater industry is in BIG-BIG trouble. It will likely fold down into something
perhaps a quarter of its present size. One nail in the coffin was the STUPID,
"bean counting", green eye-shade
driven , CPA inspired, idea that all movies must show on a format of lowest
common denominator. Namely,
on under-lighted, dim, screens, by automated 35mm projectors. All prints
offered in the same so-so format.
Meantime, home presentation has moved up to HD broadcast, and Sony Blu-ray
disks are just a few months away.
Why would anybody, want to pay up to $22 to park,( as I recently
did at Chicago's Navy Pier) to see an overpriced movie.
Part of the movie going experience for at least 30 of the last 40 years,
was that you could opt to drive to a truly
deluxe theater, perhaps 30 minutes further than the closest complex
and see the really big films in 70mm.
I doubt that "Star Wars" would have caught the imagination of the world by
even half, if the few hundred 70mm theaters
hadn't " knocked the socks off the audience" with the grand 70mm opening
of the first episode.
Those days are probably gone for good... But a practical alternative exists
with CINE 160 (6 perf format) when used in it's
WIDESCREEN, NON- STEREO 3D MODE.
It is, after all, a 35mm format. So it can be easily automated, the prints
don't cost much more, and it looks terrific
when compared to plain vanilla 35mm project. The name Cine 160 doesn't make
reference to 70mm or 35mm,
but the simple, relative size increment of 1.6 times the size. This
stresses the fact that
WHEN IT COMES TO MOVIES... " SIZE COUNTS"... BIG TIME!
Join the fight to bring back the big experience of movie
going... support the theaters showing CINE 160 when it begins!
